Many of us have our children for the weekend and the last thing we want to hear are the dreaded words “Dad, I’m bored” Those words are like nails on a chalkboard. For those of you that don’t know what a chalkboard is, It is a primitive board that you wrote on with a primitive chalk stick in schools (Almost like neanderthals painting on cave walls). Anyway if you drag your finger nails down a primitive device like this it makes a terrible, horrible, unpleasant, no good sound.

But not to fear! We will help keep those nails at bay. Here are a few things that you can do on a limited budget.

1. Groupon

My first recommendation is to get on Groupon and see what affordable family packages they have for your area. You can use this app to shop prices of local businesses and find the best deal that works for you. Get your kids involved in deciding what you want to do!

2. State Parks

As of 2014, there were 10,234 park units in the United States, according to the National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD). There are some 739 million annual visits to the country’s state parks. Of these 10,234 state parks you should be able to find one close to you. Ranging in prices from $5.00-$30.00 per carload, you can easily find something that is affordable to you.

3. City Parks

No matter where you live there are all kinds of city parks for children ranging from young to adult (Yes, I would consider myself and adult child) You can pack a simple lunch, some refreshments and spend some time letting the kids run and play.

Many parks have Outdoor grills, baseball fields, volleyball courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and walking trails. And the best part, they are free of charge.

4. Local Museums

Local museums are a great way to spend time with you children. Find several museums that you children may be interested in. It is important to choose a museum that the children find interesting, or you will get the “Dad, I’m bored” sound. Nobody wants that.

5. Simply stay at home

Sometimes just staying home and spending time doing anything the kids and you enjoy is the best choice. You have an unlimited options (Use your imagination) It is free, and your kids will enjoy spending time with the most important man in their life.

There is a multitude of things to do on any budget. Do not let the lack of funds effect your time with your children. Remember that the most important aspect of your weekend with the kids, is simple being a father!
